Project Description and Goals
1. Learn to operate a GPS to locate locations of ice road test holes.
2. Mark locations from Google Earth and input waypoints on the GPS.
3. Understand how to use a GPS on a snow machine when it is extremely cold.
4. Learn cold-weather travel safety. ie: appropriate gear, snow machine travel safety,
5. Understand emergency response-SPOT, satellite phone, VHF radios, search and rescue personnel.
6. Demonstrate the Inupiaq values of Cooperation and Responsibility to the tribe through this community service project.
7. Understand ice road safety and maintenance through ice road research (via internet).
8. Learn to maintain and use an ice auger for ice fishing.
9. Learn to collect data in the field as a young scientist.
